Wisa Stranded In Court As His Lawyer Refuses To Show Up

Eugene Ashie, aka Wisa Greid, the musician who allegedly exposed his manhood (penis) on stage at last year’s ‘Decemba 2 Rememba’ concert at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), was yesterday left floundering in court by his lawyer.

At the time the case was called yesterday morning, Counsel for the musician, Jerry Agbenovor, was not present in court to represent and even give him directions. The court, presided over by Mrs. Abena Adjin Doku, after hearing the testimony of the investigator, eventually ordered the prosecution to produce a copy of the video showing Wisa on stage unzipping his manhood at the next hearing.

She told them to present all the equipment needed to show the video before the court on the next hearing, and then adjourned the case to February 5, 2016. Wisa Greid has already pleaded not guilty to a charge of gross indecency during his first appearance in court on December 30, 2015, and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢8,000 with one surety to be justified.

The rapper was invited by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command on December 25, 2015, for exposing his genitals on stage while performing at last year’s ‘Decemba 2 Rememba’ concert, organised by Accra-based Citi FM on Christmas Eve.

What Happened In Court
The investigator in the case, Detective Chief Inspector Edward Adjei Odame, giving his testimony, told the court that on December 25, 2015, while on duty, the Regional Police Command’s attention was drawn to a video which had been posted online. After viewing a copy of the clip, it was detected that the accused person, who was a musician, was performing at a live show at the AICC, dubbed ‘Decemba 2 Rememba’ concert.

Instantly, the managers of the accused person were contacted to hand him over for investigations into what the police described as an act of gross indecency. According to him, Wisa was duly produced and cautioned after the clip has been shown him. Detective Chief Inspector Odame told the court that the accused person admitted the offence and was subsequently charged.

The Detective, however, could not produce the video in court yesterday for it to be tendered in as evidence. Interestingly, the Prosecutor and the Detective in the case gave contradictory accounts as to why they could not present the tape in court.

While the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Judith Asante, told the court “it was an oversight” for not producing the video in court, Detective Chief Inspector Odame, on the other hand, said when he checked on the storekeeper who has the tape on his way to the court, he (storekeeper) had not reported for work.

Wisa, who appeared in court in a sea-blue long sleeved shirt with a pair of black khaki trousers, sat calmly without talking to anyone, until his case was called. Present in court to give the musician moral support were his wife, manager, friends and fans, but his counsel failed to turn up.

Ironically, the musician even corrected the Investigator when he was giving his testimony and mistakenly said “A night to Remember” instead of “Decemba 2 Rememba”, which left everybody wondering if his lawyer would have allowed him to do that if he had been in court.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Judith Asante told the court that on December 25, 2015, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command’s attention was drawn to a nude video posted on the internet from an unknown source. She said in the video, Wisa removed his penis while performing live on stage at the AICC on December 24, 2015. He was dancing with a female dancer.

She said the police immediately contacted his managers to produce him at the Accra Regional Police Headquarters for investigation, which they duly obliged.

“Investigations into the case revealed that on December 24, 2015, Airtel Telecommunications Company and Citi FM organised a Christmas concert at the AICC, with the accused person as the Guest Artiste. “In the course of the programme, the accused person was ushered in to perform on the main stage, together with his female dancer, identified as Monica Kumadeh.

“While performing live on stage, the accused person drew close to the female dancer and stood behind her to dance together. Suddenly, he pulled out his penis and started to stroke the bottom of the dancer with his manhood, in the full glare of the audience, without decency,” she said.
