Wisa Pleads Not Guilty Over Genitals Display

Upcoming musician, Wisa Greid of ‘Ekiki Me’ fame, pleaded not guilty to charges of ‘gross indecency’ when he appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Wisa, real name Eugene Ashe, was hauled before the court based on reports that he had willfully showed his genitals in public and even rubbed it on the buttocks of a female dancer during his performance at the ‘December 2 Remember’ music concert on December 24, this year at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Appearing in a court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, Wisa denied the charge against him and was  accordingly granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 8,000 with one surety to reappear on January 13, 2016.

This was after Jerry Avenogbor, lawyer for Wisa Greid, had urged the court to grant bail to his client.

He said the court could admit Wisa to bail in his words in the “barest minimum” or if possible grant self-recognisance bail.

Jerry Avenogbor was emphatic that on the stage (during performance), a lot of things happen, adding that what took place was the beauty of art in entertainment.

In the view of the lawyer, people do not understand what had happened and that they would be amazed when explained.

Fake Genitals
After the court hearing on Wednesday, Wisa’s lawyer had an interaction with   journalists, during which he mounted a spirited defense for his client by insisting that what the musician showed on stage was not a real penis.

“Do you know what a dildo is? So if you know what a dildo is and you know what you can get from different sex shops all over the world then you can understand where we are coming from basically. What you saw in there is a perception. He is dissatisfied with the perception that you have. What you saw, to you it’s a dick or it looks like a dick. Can you prove that it was a dick?”

The lawyer said he was not enthused about what he described as a ‘negative perception’ that had been created for his client.

“The perception created is very negative. It doesn’t mean what he did or what he’s alleged to have done is an acceptance of whatever people are saying he did basically.

“This matter is in court and it shall be determined in court and we will display and come to the bottom of this matter in court,” Jerry Avenogbor mentioned.

He continued…“He [Wisa] has pleaded not guilty and we will proceed to determine the matter in court. If you run into the definition of art, it runs from paintings to music, to dance and culture and to everything artistic and it is broad,” he argued.”

Facts Sheet
Narrating the series of events, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector J. B Asante, said on the said date, the attention of Accra Regional Police Command was drawn to a nude video posted on the internet from an unknown source in which Wisa removed his penis while performing live on a stage at the aforementioned venue when he was dancing with a female dancer.

The police officer said the police contacted Wisa’s manager and he was brought to the police headquarters for investigations.

Chief Inspector Asante said during investigation, it was revealed that on December 24, Airtel and Citi FM organised the ‘December 2 Remember’ music concert which Wisa was invited to perform.

Chief Inspector Asante disclosed that the accused person while performing live on stage drew closer to his female dancer, stood behind her dancing together and “suddenly he pulled out his penis from his pair of jeans trousers and started using same to caress or stroke the bottom of the female dancer in the full glare of the audience without decency.”

Wisa’s  hit song ‘Ekiki Me’ brought the musician to national prominence but his stunt at the Citi FM event angered many, compelling his management to issue an official statement apologising for the artiste’s “rash and irresponsible behaviour”.

Social media platforms are awash with videos of Wisa stripping and rubbing what is believed to be his sex organ on the buttocks of his female dancer on stage.
