West Akyem eventually elects presiding member

Asamankese (E/R), Feb. 4, GNA – After four failed attempts, the West Akyem Municipal Assembly on, Wednesday, succeeded in electing a presiding member, Mr. Joseph Kwasi Baah Yirenkyi, a journalist.

He was the sole candidate and he polled all the 46 votes cast by the members.

The voters also unanimously confirmed Mr. George Mensah Akpalu as the Municipal Chief Executive.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Bosiako Sekyere, commended the assembly members for their over whelming support and called for cooperation among them to attain the assembly’s development goals.

He congratulated the MCE for the hard work done in the past and urged him to be committed to the assembly’s efforts to transform the Municipality.

The Lower West Akyem Member of Parliament, Mrs. Gifty Clenam, expressed her happiness with the selection of Mr. Akpalu to serve a second term as MCE.

She said Mr. Akpalu helped to ensure peaceful elections in the area in 2012.
