West Africa Film Festival Soon

Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, Tourism Minister
Ghana has been selected to participate in the first edition of the West African Film Festival to be hosted by the University of Houston, Texas, USA from March 2 to 5, 2016.

The theme for the festival is ‘Explore The Beauty, Complexity And Diversity of West Africa Through Films’.

The film festival will present films that are either from the region by West African artists or are about the life and culture of West Africa.

The films must provide insight into the complexity and diversity of the region and should give the viewer realistic perspectives on the people, culture, art, history and politics.

The organisers of the festival are, therefore, calling on all Ghanaian film, movie and documentary production houses as well as creative artists to submit their creative works free-of-charge to a selection and editorial board in University of Houston for screening and selection.

Anastas Anderson, representative of the film festival in Ghana, said works to be submitted must tell the West African story from the perspective of film producers, musicians, actors and other creative artistes and minds, adding that the website to submit entries is  www.westafricanff.org  and the deadline for the submission of entries is January 1, 2016.

According to him, all entries that are screened and selected will receive recognition and awards at the festival and this will go a long way to enhance Ghana’s image at the festival and encourage the growth of the creative industry in Ghana.

Anastas Anderson, who is the managing director of Infiniti Global Communications, stated that ’the story of West Africa must be retold by West Africans as a way of asserting our uniqueness and transform our continent to fit into the larger global community.’

He reiterated that West Africa is a region of astonishing beauty, a mosaic of people and cultures and the source of much American contemporary music.
