Volta Regional minister prays down blessings as clean-up participants shout ‘amen’

Overwhelmed by public response to the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise, the Volta Regional minister has rained down blessings to corresponding shouts of ‘amen’.

An unprecedented number of high-level government officials and traditional authorities joined thousands of residents in the regional capital, Ho and took to cleaning the surroundings and de-silting gutters.

The Regional Minister Helen Ntoso, Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Transport minister Dzifa Attivor and traditional leader of Anlo, Togbe Afede XIV participated in the exercise.

The exercise, which comes off on the first Saturday of every month is being replicated across the country.

Joy News regional correspondent Mawuli Yevu Agbi reports that there was not much to clean because communities in the Region are often tidy.

But this did not stop residents from showing enthusiasm for the national exercise. Speaking after the morning’s work, the deputy Local Government Minister Emmanuel Kwodzo Agyekum praised the people in the region for maintaining a clean environment.

Togbe Afede XIV added that cleaning is the task of the locals and not Government. He said although the region was already clean, people should strive to make it cleaner.

Joining in the praise, the Regional Minister expressed satisfaction for the work done.“We thank you for the hard work this morning, for coming out in your numbers”, she said.

The Minister proceeded to pray for residents asking that God makes prosperous the work of their hands, saying “May the good Lord continue to strengthen you. May he lift you above every enemy, in the name of Jesus.”

The participants were profuse in responding ‘amen, amen, amen’.
