Vodafone Ghana Foundation donates GH50,000 to The Sugar Project

Telecommunications giant, Vodafone has donated GHȻ50,000 to support The Sugar Project, which seeks to give easy access to efficient and reliable diabetes testing and education centres.

The Sugar Project is a brainchild of Joy FMs’ Super Morning Show host Kojo Yankson.

At the presentation ceremony, Head of Vodafone Foundation and Sustainability Nana Yaa Ofori-Koree said the foundation is dedicated to advancing initiatives that improve the lives of people within the various communities and will continue to identify opportunities to deliver this throughout the country.

The Sugar Project in her view fits perfectly into the company’s dream and desire.

She said the kind of transformation, improvement and change The Sugar Project will make in the lives of the beneficiaries is worth encouraging, hence Vodafone Foundation’s involvement.

The Sugar Project presented a different way of dealing with the health issue and it is a project being spearheaded by a young person so we felt that this is something that is going to reach a mass of diabetics in the country who may not know how to deal with the disease, she noted.

She hopes as a nationwide project, The Sugar Project through the funding will educate more people on the issues around diabetics.

In a related development, Vodafone Foundation also gave funding support to some institutions and individuals including STEMbees Organisation, Divine Mother and Child Foundation, and Paul Anomah-Kordieh.

Vodafone Ghana Foundation supports sustainable initiatives that solve pressing social needs, and has since 2010 introduced several social and impactful programmes.

These include a newly transformed state-of-the-art Korle-Bu Cancer treatment facility; an ultra-modern community library for a cluster of schools at Asofan; provision of incubators for the Tamale Hospital, and fibre glass speed boats to assist NADMO in its disaster recovery efforts.
