Tsatsu Tsikata is a nation wrecker – Owusu Bempah

Deputy Director of Communication for the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah has launched a scathing attack on Tsatsu Tsikata for denigrating a justice of the Supreme Court.

Mr. Tsikata has accused Justice Anin Yeboah, a member of a nine panel of judges who presided over the just ended Presidential Election Petition of bias against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on a weekly political talk show, Hot Issues on TV3 in Accra Saturday, Tsatsu who is counsel for the governing party said Justice Anin Yeboah in the eight months long trial ‘voted’ against the NDC because he holds allegiance to former President John Agyekum Kufuor who appointed him [Anin Yeboah] to the bench.

He said Justice Anin Yeboah throughout the hearing of the election petition allowed his political affiliation to cloud his judgement.

But Tsatsu Tsatsu has been heavily criticized by many including former President Kufuor, who believes the comment is “unacceptable”.

Others including lawyers say Mr. Tsikata’s comments amount to contempt hence should be hauled to the General Legal Council.

Speaking on Peace FM Monday, Ernest Owusu Bempah said such ‘infantile statements’ by Tsatsu Tsikata should be condemned in no uncertain terms.

According to him, such ‘misguided and contemptuous comments’ from a lawyer of such repute amount to scandalizing the court.

Owusu Bempah maintained that just as others were punished for contempt, Tsatsu Tsikata must also be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

The NDP man described Mr. Tsakata as a ‘nation wrecker’ whom he says wants nothing than to plunge the nation into chaos.

‘Tsatsu Tsikata is a nation wrecker; his statement must be condemned by all especially the Peace Council and civil society groups in the country’.

Owusu Bempah noted that the stakes are high in the country considering the outcome of the election petition and thus what the nation needs is reconciliatory statements and not those that could incite violence.

He bemoaned the level of ‘hypocrisy’ in the country especially on the part of the National Peace Council which is calling for peace but has so far done little to reprimand people who incite violence.
