Trader Grabbed For Assaulting Cop

Fati Mohammed, aged 39 years, is in the grips of the police for allegedly assaulting an Accra Regional Command senior police officer.

She caught the attention of some traders and buyers in Accra when she purportedly verbally assaulted the cop without any provocation.

She was immediately arrested and detained at the Accra Central Police Station after the officer had formally lodged a complaint of assault against her.

An eyewitness account indicated that Madam Fati, who used to sell her wares in front of the regional police command, got her wares seized by the police two years ago together with others.

When the items were later released, some of the traders went for theirs but madam Fati, who was apparently aggrieved, was said to have refused to go for hers.

Because of this experience, she reportedly developed some hatred for people in police uniform.

The complainant in the case, who is with the Monitors Unit of the regional command, was passing innocently when Madam Fati Mohammed attacked her, according to the eyewitness.

The police officer stopped to ask if she had offended the trader in any way.

Madam Fati became offended when the victim gathered courage to question her and so she rained more insults on the police officer.

Some other traders who were witnesses in the case tried to calm Madam Fati down but she did not listen to them and further threatened to ‘discipline’ the police officer if she dared open her mouth.

A report was lodged with the police and so madam Fati Mohammed was picked for questioning.

The Accra Central District Crime Officer, DSP Kwame Owusu Sekyere, who confirmed the story, said Madam Fati Mohammed has been provisionally charged for assault and would be sent to court soon.
