This Is Nana Addo’s Time…He’ll Beat Anybody Hands Down – Kweku Baako

A proposal to elect a flagbearer before the constituency elections have been put before the Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This follows calls from members of the party to maintain 2012 Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo as their flagbearer for the 2016 elections.

However, speaking on Peace FM’s Morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Wednesday, Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has described the proposal as ‘premature’.

“I would say that the proposal is premature; that is my candid opinion. It is a bit out of the blues and coming after those rushy calls for endorsement of Nana; it sends a negative signal. It looks as if it is contrived. I don’t know why leadership sometimes cannot ignore such things and allow things to move,” Kweku Baako said on the ‘Kokrokoo’ Morning Show on PEACE FM.

He said if the proposal is to enhance Nana Addo’s chance of being maintained as their flagbearer, it is ‘needless’.

According to him, “Akufo Addo does not need any of these things. He will beat anybody who contests with him at the congress hands down. This is his time in the NPP – so if people are orchestrating things that they think will advance Nana’s competitiveness, they should forget it. It is needless; it creates unnecessary divisions and distractions”

He suggested to the NPP that they should avoid rushing into taking such a decision because per their (NPP) constitution; “election of the party’s presidential candidate shall be held not later than 24 months from the date of the National elections” and so ‘they have more time’.
