Tamale youths trade verbal attacks over appointment of YEA Director

Two youth groups in Tamale nearly clashed over the appointment of Tanko Rashid as the Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency.

One group opposed to his appointment said Tanko already holds-the Northern Regional Operations Director and also the Treasure of the NDC.

The group’s Deputy Secretary, Mohammed Weimah told Citinews accused him of abuse of office.

“Tanko Rashid computer continued to draw double salaries as a manager of the Northern Region NHIS and a as a teacher of the Tamale College of Education without teaching. If the President is indeed committed to fighting corruption in Ghana, we find it abhorrent to appoint him as the Northern Regional Director of YEA, considering his record as a serial fraudster. We also advice the appointing authority to revoke the appointment of Rashid Computer to save the YEA from being looted,” Mohammed said.

They moved to the regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to petition the regional Minister, Alhaji Muniru Limuna over the appointment.

But supporters of the newly appointed Director were at the RCC to witness a handing over ceremony and the swearing in of Mr Tanko.

According to Joy News’ Martina Bugri, they were unhappy about the attempt to resist Tanko’s appointment and started raining insults on the opposing group.

According to reports, the opposing group returned verbal abuse of the other group by pelting stones at Mr Rashid’s and that nearly resulted in a clash.

She reports that the timely intervention by the police at the RCC restored calm.

“The police fired warning shots to restore sanity as the two groups were pelting stones,” Martina added.

The opposing group recommended that the Northern Regional Deputy Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency, Abdul Mumin, deserved to head the Agency.
