Sunyani West inaugurates unit committees

Odumase (B/A), Feb. 1, GNA – Madam Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive (DCE) has said the contributions of unit committees cannot be understated in the development of the nation.

She said the unit committee members are closer to the people in their communities and know their main concerns and needs.

Madam Kusi said this at the inauguration of 65 unit committees of the Awuah Domase and Odumase Number One Electoral Areas in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

She called on the members to avoid the politicisation of issues in the course of their duties and be prepared to work with all.

Madam Kusi urged them to remain dedicated and committed in the discharge of their responsibilities by giving equal attention to the people so that they could approach them with their problems.

This, the DCE explained, was because the Assembly might not be aware of the immediate concerns and challenges of the people at the grassroots level but the unit committee members were closer and always with them.

Madam Kusi urged them to submit well-written proposals to the Assembly for levying and collection of rates through the relevant, Zonal, Town or Area Councils and implored them to initiate projects that would benefit the people in their communities.

She also appealed to them to organise regular communal labour on sanitation and environmental cleanliness.

The MCE also reminded them on the need to educate the people on their rights, privileges and responsibilities for successful implementation of all programmes and projects in their localities.

The new members were sworn into office by Mr Kwame Agyenim Boateng, former Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of National Commission on Civic Education, after he had educated them about their roles and duties.
