Sunyani Cops Stop Diverted Fertilizer

THE POLICE in the Brong Ahafo Region have arrested another KIA Truck loaded with N.P. K. fertilizer at Tanoano near Abesim meant for free distribution to cocoa farmers in the Sunyani Municipality.

The 119 bags of N.P.K fertilizer, the police believed, were sold by a farmer who benefited from government’s free distribution of fertilizers to cocoa farmers. The occupant of the vehicle with the registration number WR 3592 – 13 Tayali Adjei was arrested and is helping the police to arrest the supposed farmer, Kojo Adjei who sold the fertilizer to Tayali.

The police said, upon a tip-off Tayali, 33, with the stationary truck was arrested at Tanoano. Upon questioning, Tayali mentioned Kojo Adjei whom he said sold the goods to him. Kojo, however, is on the run and the police are looking for him.   Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Sunyani Police command, ASP Christopher Tawiah appeals to the public to volunteer information for the arrest of Kojo Adjei.

The B/A Regional Police Command believe cocoa farmers who are receiving free fertilizer allocation from the government are abusing the gesture and therefore appealed to the public to volunteer information to the police to arrest any farmer or farmers who would like to thwart the government’s effort to help cocoa farmers.

The command also appealed to the court to punish severely any fertilizer smuggler or smugglers who are brought before them to serve as deterrent to those who are contemplating engaging in the unscrupulous activities.

The KIA Rhino Truck loaded with 199 bags of fertilizer packed for Cocoa Board is in the custody of the Regional Police Command pending further investigations.
