Sir John’s Comments Are Unnecessary- Kenwuud

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kenwuud Nuworsu has expressed dissatisfaction about the comments made by the General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Owusu Afriyie concerning Nana Addo’s candidature in the 2016 elections.

According to Mr. Afriyie popularly called Sir John, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s flagbearer in the 2012 elections is still a credible candidate who can win the party power and as such should not be contested nor changed in the run-up to the 2016 general elections.

He maintained that, but for the alleged irregularities and violations, Nana Addo would have been President. He added that the first petitioner in the just ended election petition, by his nurturing and experiences, is a dynamic and astute politician and statesman who can transform the fortunes of the country for the better when given the opportunity.

These comments, the Volta Regional NPP Chairman, Mr. Nuworsu described as very unnecessary and untimely, despite the fact that ‘Nana Addo is a tried and tested leader who can bring the change that Ghanaians hope for.’

This is because the comments have the tendency of dividing the front of the party. He said, ‘Sir John’s comment, if it is true; is very is unnecessary and untimely because It has the potential of dividing the front of the party.’

He explained that after coming out of a ‘protracted and devastating election petition which outcome left many supporters and sympathizers traumatized but united; the best thing to do is for the party to build on the unity that has emerged from the case.’

Mr. Nuworsu stressed it was important was for the party to be united and that making comments to derail the success of the party was uncalled for.

He was, however, quick to add that his comments did not disregard the sacred fact that ‘Nana Addo is a tried and tested leader and a credible candidate for the party. That notwithstanding, Nana Addo’s decision to contest or otherwise should be left to him and must not lie in the mouth on any executive member to create cracks in the party.’

More so, according to him, what leaders of the party are expected to do is to respect the decision of Nana Addo that he wants to take the back seat; rest, reflect and make a decision about his political future. ‘Allow him to reflect on his life and come out later so that we all follow,’ he stressed.

Kenwuud Nuworsu noted that, ‘The General Secretary’s comments are very unfortunate because Nana Addo today is enjoying the love and admiration of Ghanaians for his gallantry and maturity for leading the party to file the election petition, after the petition and acceptance of the judgment.

The least what we can do is to let this grow, so that in case he (Nana Addo) takes a decision, we will follow and support as a united front without any agitation or apathy.’

Mr. Nuworsu believes the executives must rather rally round the unity to organize the party because ‘this is the time to re-organize and re-vitalize the party and not make unnecessary comments because the Party needs to recover and come back stronger to regain power.’
