SC Verdict Has Caused Fear And Panic – PPP Communicator

A little while ago, nine justices of the Supreme Court which presided over the election petition case ruled in favour of President Mahama, dismissing the petitioner’s case that there were violations, malpractices and irregularities in the December 2012 elections.

In analyzing the ruling, majority of Ghanaians have suggested that the ruling has given way for people to do whatever they like during subsequent elections.

New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe constituency, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, speaking to the issue on Oman FM, vowed not to spare anyone who will commit any malpractice or irregularity during the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Many more people have expressed their displeasure about the ruling and adding his voice to it, member of the Communication team of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Charles Owusu says: “I was a bit surprised at the ruling. It has created fear and panic towards the 2016 election. This is because it has been indicated (in the ruling) that there were no violations during the 2012 election…the ruling dismissed over-voting, irregularities and other violations but they (judges) have given their ruling and that is final”.

He urged the petitioners to embrace the ruling and focus rather on the future because to him “if not for anything, people have learnt a lot and gained some courtroom experience by the decision to seek court’s determination of the election petition.”

Quoting Hebrews 9:27 (And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment), he also advised everyone to be mindful of how they use the power or authority they wield since because they will account for it ‘one day’.

“If you read the Bible, it states, it is appointed once for man to die and after that judgment. Supreme Court judge will die and he will be judged, Petitioners will die and they will be judged, respondents will die and they will be judged, President will die and he will be judged; everybody will die and will be judged and so in everything we do, we should be mindful that one day; it doesn’t matter how powerful you are; God will call you to come and account for your days on earth. While on earth we should not abuse the power we have,” Charles Owusu admonished.
