SADA Story Is Saddest In Ghana’s History – Nana

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has taken his ‘Raise and Build’ tour to Tamale and other parts of the Northern Region.

In an address, he noted that the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), which was meant to facilitate speedy development of the northern sectors of the country, had rather become a vehicle for misappropriation of state funds and wide-spread corruption.

‘You will all remember that it was the idea of the NPP to create a Northern Development Authority (NDA) when we visited the Tamale campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS). We wanted to use that Authority to properly accelerate the development of the three northern regions so that we can bridge the gap between the north and the south. Then vice presidential candidate of the NDC, John Mahama (now president) laughed in my face that I did not know what I was talking about and that, if I had any money to use, I should use it to settle the debt of VRA. When they came into power, they knew that the idea was good and called it the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority. Instead of the president, who hails from the Northern Region, to be serious with it, he rather put it into the hands of people who ended up misappropriating and wasting public funds,’ he lamented.

He said the story of SADA is the saddest in the history of the nation.

Nana Addo applauded the former DCE’s and government appointees under the NPP regime, for their roles in the development of the Northern Region, which he said had resulted in the improvement of the party’s fortunes – even after the NPP had left power.

Nana Addo cautioned motor riders against reckless riding and asked them to be careful on the streets in order to make his tour of the region an accident-free one.

According to him, he decided to start his ‘Rise and Build’ tour from the areas where the party has low membership and supporters, with the intention of giving them a special attention and to get them to understand why they need to support the New Patriotic Party for national development. It was also to get them to see the need to shun President Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) and vote for the NPP in 2016.

Nana Addo said every Ghanaian knows the difficulties in the country now, as a result of bad economic management and leadership.

‘People can no longer get jobs; there is poor agriculture, education is in crisis; parents are unable to afford the cost of educating their children and the National Health Insurance Scheme is gradually collapsing, which has now given way to the cash-and-carry system…. weak strength of the cedi has also made many flourishing businesses to collapse due to continuous loses,’ he noted.

According to Nana Addo, he is aware of how everybody is worried about the internal problems in the NPP, and advised that members should handle their concerns internally to avoid the daily discussion of the party’s matters in the media.

He assured party faithful that he would do everything possible with the help of others, to ensure that peace and unity return to the NPP before 2016.

Nana Addo appealed to Ghanaians to have confidence in him and his ability to transform the economy of the country when given the mandate to govern the country.
