Rugby: Ghana Spank Togo 17-0

Ghana won a friendly international match against Togo during the Accra Festival held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday 24th October 2015.

The match, which saw Ghana record a 17-0 win, was part of a day of various matches that included a men 7s tournament, a ladies 7s match and a boys 7s match.

The festival started with an opening speech and inspection of teams by Mr. Chester Anie, the guest of honour.

He graced the women 7s match between Cosmos and Titans, which game started with thrilling quick runs and serious tackling from both sides.

An exciting boys 7s match between teams from Cosmos Buffaloes and Idas was won by the Cosmos Buffaloes team.

The international friendly was arranged jointly by presidents of Ghana and Togo Rugby, Herbert Mensah and Modeste Akassan, with the objective of strengthening cooperation in the development of Rugby in the West African Region.

Mr. Mensah, who was in London to attend the World Rugby General Assembly recently, said he was delighted with the successful outcome of the Accra Rugby Festival and expressed the belief that it will grow from strength to strength.

‘I had fruitful discussions with other presidents of West African Rugby about building on this foundation and I foresee that regional cooperation in the interest of Rugby may soon be structured in a more formalised way,’ Mensah said.

The Accra Festival was preceded by another successful men 7s tournament, the GRUPA (Ghana Rugby Union Players Association) 7s.

The Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) 2015/16 is scheduled to kick off in November.
