Rich Culture Heralds Japan Festival

A rich display of Japanese tradition characterised the 13 milestone of the Ghana-Yosakoi-Japan festival held at the Mensvic Hotel, East Legon in Accra.

The event, which was one of the major highlights of this year’s celebrations, drew large following from the Japan community as well as students of second cycle institutions in Ghana.

Dominating activities of the festival celebrations was the performance of the Yosakoi dance, a fusion of Japanese and Ghanaian traditional dances.

The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Kaoru Yoshimura, who played a key role in the event told BEATWAVES that ‘what we are witnessing here today is indeed a beautiful spectacle, you can see for yourselves the blend of rich Japanese cultures.

‘The Yosakoi Japan festival enables us to appreciate each other’s culture features. It showcases many aspects of Japanese culture at the festival grounds, providing the opportunity to experience a lot of beautiful Japanese cultural performances and activities.

‘I am confident that as we celebrate this Yosakoi festival together, the friendship between the people of Japan and Ghana will further deepen and continue to grow with the celebration of Japan week in the years ahead,’ he added.

The event saw the display of traditional Japanese clothes, paintings, foods and artifacts.
