Respect the will of the people, politicians urged

Berekum (B/A), Jan. 7, GNA – The Very Reverend Peter Yaw Acheampong, Superintendent Minister of the Freeman Methodist Church, has called on politicians to respect the will of the people.

He said: ‘The same people who gave you the mandate could take it back if you failed to live up to expectation or took them for granted.’

He said the zeal and concerns exhibited by politicians during electioneering campaigns must be reflected in the delivery of responsibilities when given the nod.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Very Rev. Acheampong said any leader who has the welfare of the people at heart would not thirst for power.

‘When you gain power and fail to deliver to expectations, you bring yourself to the wrath of the electorate and they could show you the exit,’ he said.

The Superintendent Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Berekum Local Council of Churches, urged politicians to conduct themselves in an acceptable manner in the coming elections.

He said people should think not only about the sweetness, but also the bitterness of power, and work hard to preserve the peace of the land.

‘If you think about the wellbeing of the people, then the 2016 general elections should not be a do or die affair, because the bitterness of power will then get hold of you in future if you take it by force, ‘ he said.
