Regular training needed for local government members

Gomoa-Buduburam (C/R), Dec. 22, GNA – Mr Edward Aryee, a former member of Ga West District Assembly, has called on Government to provide regular training programmes for members of the local governance structure.

He said this would provide the Assembly members with the requisite tools with which they can effectively check corruption at the local level.

He said the inability to fully appreciate the local government concept has led to many assembly members becoming mere rubber stamps for corrupt practices within the assemblies.

Mr Aryee said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa-Buduburam.

The former Ngreshie – Amanfrom Electoral Area Assemblyman expressed the hope that the newly-elected Assembly members would be effectively educated on how to carefully scrutinize financial transactions of the Assemblies.

He said it is important that after their respective inaugural ceremonies, concrete arrangements be initiated for their training on all Local Government Laws and Regulations as early as possible.

Mr Aryee said what the country needed was strong, bold, and courageous assemblymen and women who were prepared to assist the Government to ruthlessly fight corruption.
