Re: WOODIN Drops M.Anifest For Flowking Stone?

So Number 1 was probably one of the most anticipated music collaboration the Ghanaian music industry has expected over the years. It is here and has people bridging up on the argument as to who is the best amongst two of the industry’s most intelligent and poetically creative persons—Flowking Stone, M.anifest –. Days after their work, rumours put them together on the WOODIN signatory deals http://www.modernghana.com/music/29750/3/woodin-drops-manifest-for-flowking-stone.html! Here, I dive a little deeper into the various aspects of the song to make you the judge of who did better.

Genre
Naturally one would except a hiphop beat to be up-tempo, particularly when this piece is produced by Magnom. Number 1 by Flowking Stone (Bradez) featuring Dampoo and M.anifest is really a hip-hop song, just on relatively low-tempo flavoured with a string of contemporary highlife, which is why you cannot wave your hands to break dance like the average hip-hop song.

Lyrics
An outlook on the lyrics puts consistency on the hook well done by Dampoo connecting the other three verses by rappers Flowking Stone and M.anifest. Overly, the punches were up to expectation–the Mohammed Ali type. Lyrics had metaphor, simile, alliteration to an extent and wordplay. It centered on making it through the shades of enemies, rap supremacy, life challenges and choices.

Flowking Stone Vrs M.anifest
Usually when someone compares rappers in Ghana, it is about their flow and public appeal; say M.anifest vrs Sarkodie, Stone vrs Sarkodie. However these two rappers are compared based on the depth of their lyrics, metaphors, wordplays, in short intelligence and poetry.

Sheer display of poetic values, intelligence and control on the beats as both rappers decided to tread carefully. The tempo of the tune allowed M.anifest to flow his usual comfortable low tempo way without having to loop on the rhythm like it happens when he is on a ‘real’ hip-hop beat. His lyrics were consistent; metaphors were on point although not a lot of wordplays like he does often.

Flowking Stone on the other hand flows with just beat without difficulty so flow on the beat wasn’t expected to be a problem although it was outside his comfort zone. He had two verses to put his message across, play on his words and rhymes and produce one of his best verses his he started his music career a decade ago.

In all aspects, Number 1 is the best music 2015 has seen and hopefully it will live up to its hype.
