Queenster Builds 3 Community Centres In Agona East

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East in the Central Region, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, has commissioned three modern community centres in the constituency.

Maame Pokuah, who is also Deputy Central Regional Minister, commissioned two of the centres on Tuesday at Agona Asamoakwa and Agona Bewadze, following the commissioning of another one at Agona Akwakwa about a year ago using her own resources in a bid to honour her 2012 campaign promises to the constituents.

The state-of-the-art centres at Agona Bewadze and Asamoakwa reportedly cost about GH¢28,000 whilst the one at Akwakwa, which is the biggest of the three, cost GH¢32,000.

Interestingly, the MP also renovated all the houses in Agona Bewadze, the gateway to the constituency, where the houses were in deplorable condition.

During her campaign in 2012, Maame Sawyer promised the constituents that if they voted her into parliament, she would ensure that they have community centres, electricity and tarred roads.

Uncharacteristic of many Ghanaian politicians, the Agona East MP has after nearly three years of winning the seat, fought hard to meet her pledges to the people, the reason why the constituents, including the chiefs, are rooting for her victory in the next election.

She had reportedly lobbied to extend electricity to the constituency, aside the fact that she had also fought to get roads leading to the constituency tarred.

The MP, who is seeking re-election in the NDC parliamentary primaries slated for November 21, 2015, alongside two other contenders, told DAILY GUIDE after the commissioning of the social centres that the constituents had demonstrated much love for her right from the day she started her campaign in 2012 and so she felt the need to impact on their lives positively.

Educational Support
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that Maame Sawyerr has since 2012 helped to pay fees for 257 students at the senior high school (SHS) level in the constituency in a move to ensure that all children in the area have access to quality education.

The MP has also assisted teachers in the area and continues to partner them in promoting teaching and learning .

Meanwhile, a youth group in the constituency calling itself Agona Youth for Mahama, has reportedly endorsed the candidature of Maame Pokuah ahead of the NDC primaries.

They regard her as the right candidate to lead the developmental agenda of their communities.
