The Upper East Regional Police Commander, COP Yao Afeku, has given the police officers who were on duty at the time four suspects escaped from the Zuarungu Police Station cells 10 days to produce the suspects. He did not say what would happen to the police officers if they failed to produce the suspects by the end of the 10th day.

It’s been two days since the four suspects on remand at the Zuarungu Police Station escaped mysteriously from cells Sunday night.

The police have refused to talk to the press about the issue and what led to the suspects’ escape. However, a DAILY GUIDE source said the police had still not re-arrested the four suspects, even though the source confirmed that they were searching for the escapees.

The suspects reportedly created a small opening in the wall of the cell and escaped through it. As to how the suspects got whatever they used to create the opening and how they created an opening in the wall without anyone hearing the noise remain a mystery.

The situation raises questions about the strength of the walls of the Zuarungu Police Station and other new police stations built in recent times.

The news of the suspects’ escape has put fear in many residents, especially when the suspects are said to be ‘high grade’ criminals.
