President’s comments about incompetence have been misinterpreted – Minister

The Communications Minister says President John Dramani Mahama’s comments about Bawumia questioning his competence have been misinterpreted.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Dr Edward Omane Boamah stated that the President has not said that Dr. Bawumia and others are not Ghanaians and should not criticise him.

The New Patriotic Party’s Vice-Presidential candidate and renowned Economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been questioning the president’s handling of the economy.

President John Dramani Mahama whilst addressing a mini-rally at the Trade Fair Centre yesterday, replied Dr Bawumia and said

“Those who say ‘Mahama’s administration is incompetent’ have not come close to the presidency before.”

He also stressed that he would not be shaken by insults and personal attacks.

“I will not allow useless insults to distract me,” he stated.

The Communications Minister says “The President has been very accommodating, tolerant and even charitable by describing certain insults as useless”.

This according to him is because others will not take the insults that the President takes.

Meanwhile, NPP’s aspiring MP for Ofoase Ayirebi says the president is speaking a language of a person who is ‘conceited and frustrated’.

“The president should be doing an assessment of his performance on the manifesto he ran on to become president,” he added.

He expressed disappointment in the President for his comments.

“I think that the calm and measured person that many Ghanaians know Mr Mahama to be…before he rose to become president is not the same person who was speaking yesterday,” he stated.
