Police arrest 5 for robbing church of harvest proceeds

A gang of 5-armed robbers who attacked a prophetess and her pastor husband and succeeded in robbing them of their church’s harvest proceeds to the tune of Gh47, 000 have been arrested by the Nkawie Divisional Police command.

The robbers who live in the vicinity with the couple at Atwima Manhyia are said to have stormed the house of the reverend ministers which serves as the temporal church building with machete, clubs and scissors and made away with their booty a day after their annual harvest program.

The suspected robbers have been identified as Owusu Emmanuel-25, Atta Amoah and George Mensah aged 32 and 48 respectively. The rest are a teenager; James Darko and Yaw Afrifa, 23.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye told journalists at a press conference the gang of five went into hiding until the complaint, Pastor Jones Okyere identified them on December 14, 2015 just a day after the incident.

According to DCOP Kofi Boakye, the suspects would soon be arraigned for conspiring to commit crime and robbery against Section 149 of Act 2960.

He advised residents to desist from keeping huge sums of money at their homes to avoid attracting armed robbers unto themselves.

Meanwhile, police have arrested one David Ninson at Amakom for manufacturing biscuits made out of Indian hemp with a second suspect, Dramani Abubakari also in police custody for possessing several parcels and wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Mayanka in Kumasi.

Abubakari who was arrested with 21 parcels and over 400 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealeded in an underground tunnel at the Kumasi Abattoir.
