Peer Review Mechanism meeting held


Accra, Jan. 27, GNA – The Governing Council of the National African Peer Review Mechanism (NAPRM) in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a day’s meeting on mid-term evaluation and project manual.

It was to strengthen and enhance the APRM District Oversight Committees (DOCs) on the best practices on the project activities and processes in Ghana.

The APRM project, being executed in five African countries namely Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin, are jointly funded by the European Union (EU) and Hanns Seidel Foundation.

Mr Kofi Marrah, the Joint National Coordinator of the NAPRM and Governing Council, said the development of a training manual and the mid-term evaluation began in March 2013 and would end in February, 2016.

He said the APRM project is to enhance the level of professionalism, efficiency in process, buildup involvement of civil society, strengthen good governance and democracy in the five countries.

‘In Ghana it is being executed in Tema, Adenta, Adansi, South Sekyere, South East Akim, Fanteakwa, Jomoro, Ahanta West, Kintampo North, Wenchi, Komenda, Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Effutu, Kpando, Agortime Ziope, Zabzugu-Tatale, Goru-Timpane, Kassena-Nakane, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Sissala West and Wa East.’

Ms Lisa Tigler, Hans Seildel Foundation Project Officer, commended the DOCs for fostering the APRM process towards the achievement its goals in strengthening civil society in politics, economy and also helping to create a conducive environment for living.

Mr Samuel Akuamah, the NCCE Deputy National Chairman, expressed the hope that the knowledge they have acquired would lead to improve engagement between them, local government authorities and the society.

The participants were taken through the project summary and the workshop objectives, the training manual, training of trainer’s workshops and pilot capacity building.
