Parliamentary Aspirant In Dual Citizenship Row

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that one of the three candidates contesting in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Gomoa East Constituency of the Central Region, Theophilus Ampah is holding a dual citizenship status, making him a native of Ghana and Britain.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that Mr. Ampah who was asked about his dual citizenship openly confirmed it to the vetting committee, a status which many in the party had thought had disqualified him to contest in the impending constituency primaries.

In an interview with some branch women organizers in the Gomoa East Constituency, they warned the party hierarchy to ensure the disqualification of Mr. Ampah since executives of the Greater Accra Region had

disqualified a candidate with the same status last Monday.

‘Are the Central Regional Executives of the NDC using different constitution in the country that they can encourage people with dual citizenship to contest elections in the country?’ they questioned.

The spokesperson for the irate branch women organizers, Madam Abena Adadzewa of Gomoa Panfokrom said they cannot sit down for Mr. Ampah to be elected and later sent to jail for his criminal

records.
She therefore vowed to resist any attempt by the regional and national executives to allow Mr. Ampah to contest the upcoming primaries so far as he continues to hold a citizenship of two countries.

‘We have even decided not to vote in case he (Ampah) wins because he would definitely get himself into trouble and we cannot defend him since he knew the right thing and decided to play  with the intelligence of the people’ she added.

It would be recalled that some newspapers had reported that the Greater Accra Executives of NDC had disqualified a candidate who holds a dual citizenship status just like Mr. Ampah.
