Original ‘Black President’ Film To Be Released

The aftermath of the just ended annual Felabration concert in Nigeria which some Ghanaian artists were invited to perform has been nothing but lots of positive remarks and news of some collaborations between artists of both countries.

Organised to celebrate the legacy of FelaKuti the originator of Afrobeat; a style of music he formed while on tour in Ghana and studying highlife which was made possible by his relationship with Ghanaian music production heavy weight and very good friend Faisal Helwani who opened the door of the Ghanaian entertainment industry to him.

As fate would have it, the two Music dynasties were reunited when the children of the entertainment heavyweights met in Lagos because Yasmeen Helwani was one of the invited artists at Felabration 2014.

Sources close to both families confirm that discussions were held concerning a long forgotten film project titled ‘THE BLACK PRESIDENT’. After Fela’s house was burnt down along with the original soundtrack to the film which was produced by Faisal Helwani years ago, the film was put in storage in the UK and efforts to access the remainder of the film for repackaging are at an advanced stage.

The two families are very interested in the release of the film and are working in that regard to make sure the film is released as soon as possible though a release date hasn’t been confirmed. Such a release will go along way to tell the story and artistic vision of FelaKuti and arguably the most successful and influential man in to ever worked in the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
