Opare-Ansah to Organize District League in Suhum

The member of parliament for Suhum in Eastern Region Hon Frederick Opare-Ansah has from the beginning of the year been organizing a series of football tournaments in the Suhum Constituency on electoral area basis. The purpose of these tournaments is to help sports development in the Suhum Constituency and to select teams to represent the various communities in a district league he plans to organize from the middle of the year.

The tournament has already been played in about ten electoral areas already including Obuotupan, Akorabo, Zor, Tetekasum, Adarkwa, Koransang/Kukua, Anumansa and Amenhia etc. He has already spent over GHC 20,000 GHC on these tournaments and the tournament plus the Municipal League he plans to organize is estimated to cost almost GHC 100,000.

He has been present personally also during all the above games and has been explaining the purpose of these tournaments to those who gather to watch. He is also using this opportunity to meet the constituents and get to know some of their challenges as well as inform them about the projects he is undertaking or about to undertake in the constituency.

All the teams who participate in the tournament receive cash prizes and footballs. The winners receive a trophy and a set of jersey plus a cash prize. The eventual winner of the league will get the opportunity to play one international match in the ECOWAS sub-region which will be funded by him and that team will be supported to join one of the lower divisions of the main Ghanaian league.

He has promised to make this league an annual event and hopes that it becomes as big as the national league or second best at least.

According to the MP he is someone who has a huge passion for sports and being MP for Suhum for some time now, he has realized there are a lot of talented footballers in Suhum who need the exposure to get into the major Ghanaian premier league or better still, one of the European leagues.
