Obuasi; Another Demo To Hit Mahamah On Tuesday

Angry members of Artisans Small scale Miners Association in Obuasi are lacing their boots to hit on streets on Tuesday, November 15.

The group is agitating about “galamsey down operation” by government in 2013 to stop galamsey activities at the area.

The residents says the move has cause many of them unemployed, while to others, rendered them divorce in their marriages.

At a press conference held on Wednesday to announce the impending peaceful demonstration schedule for Tuesday 15 December, Rufus Borry the secretary indicated that, “the exercise has hype robbery acts in Obuasi and its environs, a lot of other social vices are taking place and we feel the presidents John Dramani Mahama must take steps to redeem this situation”.

He indicated that, the collapse of galamsey coupled with laid-off workers by Anglo gold mining group have embedded economic hardship on residents in the municipality for past 5 years.

“If the president is not going to provide employment for us, he must not aid the company stopping us from working”.

According to the group, the municipal have been influx with armed military men. “What crime has Obuasi alone caused, whiles all mining areas in Ghana are operating peacefully without any interruption”? They ask.

The group is informing all stakeholders that, they are going to hit peaceful demonstration on the slated date to get their grievances known to the government.

The executives at the press briefing called on all affected members in the municipality to come in their numbers as they converge to express their grievances known to authorities.
