Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly misappropriates over GH700,000

In part two of Joy News investigations, an Audit report shows that the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly has failed to account for GH₵729, 000 in public funds.

The 2013 audit report cited by Joy News’ Benjamin Henaku broke down grim stories of mismanagement into categories such as negligence, forgery and abuse of office.

Payment vouchers valued at more than GH₵200,000 were issued without going through the Assembly’s internal audit unit.

Another external audit revealed unauthorized payment vouchers of over GH₵55, 000. The Assembly also misapplied GH₵ 70,000 and illegally deducted over GH₵ 278,000 in the District Assembly Common Fund.

An officer with the Assembly Kofi Tsakpo has been accused of diverting GH₵64,000 of the District’s money into his private pocket.

He has cited an investigation by EOCO as sufficient explanation for his refusal to comment.

Curiously, the auditor-general’s 2013 report to Parliament did not capture allegations of misappropriation in the Municipality.

Joy News has not been successful in getting the Auditor-General’s Department to explain this anomaly.

In an earlier report, the Nsawam-Adoagyire MCE was also fingered in the loss of GH₵40,000 after he, in concert with an assembly staff falsified memos to request payments for activities it has not done.
