No Better Road, No Vote—Akyem Maase, Asafo Residents Demand

Residents of Akyem Maase and Asafo are appealing to government to repair the Old Tafo- Maase- Asafo it due to its poor nature which makes transportation a major problem in the area.

According to the agrieved residents, the poor nature of the road makes it difficult to get vehicles to the communities at night.

The Tafo-Maase road was tarred some few years ago by the ruling NDC government but it is now in poor state and full of potholes.

One of the residents, Afia Serwaa, speaking to the press expressed worry about the situation which has negative effects on their way of life.

“It is difficult to get vehicle to Maase when its six o’clock in the evening because drivers complain the road is very bad” she said.

She stated passengers normally have to pay exhorbitant lorry fares to drivers before one can get a vehicle to and from the two communities which do not favour most of them.

Other residents were however angry at both the East Akyem municipal assembly and the MPs for Abuakwa north and south, Hon. J. B. Danquah Adu and Hon. Atta Akyea, for neglecting them despite numerous appeals made to them.

They accused the contractor who constructed the road of doing shoddy work which led to the current poor nature of the roads.

“We are suprised this road has turned into potholes eventhough it was constructed some few years ago” the aggrieved residents added.

They, are however threatening, to boycott any political activity in the communities if the road is not fixed before elections next year 2016.
