NDC Women’s Organizer In Crash

The Eastern Regional Deputy Women’s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Catherine Ayakwa, has been involved in an accident while on her way to Accra.

She sustained various degrees of injury inflicted by broken windscreen.

The accident, which happened at about 12 noon last Wednesday at Peduase in the region, was believed to have been caused by brake failure.

Ms. Ayakwa’s vehicle was descending the Aburi hills towards Damfa when the driver lost control as the brake reportedly failed.

The occupants – the Deputy Women’s Organiser, her daughter and the driver – with the help of a couple who saw the accident, were rushed to the Pantang Hospital, in Accra where they were treated and discharged.

A Good Samaritan helped to tow the mangled Ford Escort, registered as ER 133-13, to the Aburi Police Station, where the incident was reported.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Ms Catherine Ayakwa said she was seated at the rear of the vehicle when all of a sudden, she heard her driver shouting, “The brake has failed!”

Before long, the vehicle began veering off the road, she said, adding that it then somersaulted thrice before halting on its wheels, making the occupants come out unassisted.

However, the daughter and the driver were not hurt.

A police source said the circumstance that led to the accident was being investigated.
