NDC man who said celebs are prostitutes to join Dumsor vigil

Alhaji Halidu Haruna, a former presidential staffer and communicator of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed that he will be taking part in a vigil to protest against the worsening power crisis.

Alhaji Haruna, who took a swipe at some of the country’s celebrities for criticising government’s handling of the power crisis, popularly known as Dumsor, says he will be at the event Saturday.

The NDC communicator described female celebrities who are above 30 years, including Yvonne Nelson, Lydia Forson and others, who announced plans to embark on the vigil, as prostitutes.

Halidu posted on Facebook that “Are those celebrities who are above the age of 30 years and not married responsible? What are they waiting for? Is it the prostitution that they are engaged in which has turned their minds upside down and they don’t sound reasonable again? I have no respect for prostitutes. Let them say whatever they want to say, their mouth no bi gun.”

His post was condemned by Ghanaians, even people within the NDC, prompting him to quickly take it down and render an unqualified apology.

Speaking on Ghana Connect on Joy FM Friday, Alhaji Halidu Haruna disclosed that the celebrities and Ghanaians should expect him at the vigil.

He said “I’m joining, I’m going, I will be there. I have huge bobo that I have actually prepared…” to the astonishment of panellists.

The vigil, which is expected to be a peaceful procession by the celebrities and their fans with lit candles, torchlights, and lanterns, is an offshoot of a social media campaign #‎dumsormuststop that Yvonne Nelson started.

Ghana is currently enduring gruelling power rationing that has been persisting for the past three years.

Saturday’s vigil will start from the University of Ghana overhead bridge and end at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.
