Nana Oye Lithur Commends Zongo Ladies

The Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection Honorable Nana Oye Lithur has praised the Federation of Zongo Ladies for promoting the education and general welfare of girls and women in the Muslim settlements known as Zongos in the country.

The minister made this remark at the third edition of the Federation of Zongo Ladies at the Nima Social Center in Accra.

The minister advised the Federation of Zongo Ladies to continue with their efforts to promote and empower women adding that their contribution would greatly complement government effort to provide comprehensive and integrated approach to women empowerment for the future we all desire.

The minister said “girls face discrimination, violence and abuse everyday and empowering them is a moral imperative and a matter of human justice and equality” saying that “we must continue to sustain efforts to ensure gender equality to ensure that women become an integral part of the national development”

The minister announced that she is liaising with the Council of Muslim Chiefs to roll out training programs for Zongo youths. She therefore appealed to the Muslim youth especially the girls in the Zongo communities to take advantage of the various programs developed and implemented by government.

Rukayatu Adamu National Coordinator of the Federation of Zongo Ladies thanked Honorable Nana Oye Lithur for honoring their invitation to address them at the function. She rolled out the objectives of the federation which includes involving women in the Zongos in promoting the education of girls and support for women generally. The Federation of Zongo Ladies five branches in Central, Eastern ,Western, Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions adding that very soon the executive of the federation would be inaugurated in turns beginning with the Ashanti Region
