NAFOP Wants Nana Again

Friends of Nana Akufo-Addo (NAFOP), one of the affiliate clubs within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it would be prudent for the party to present Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo again as its flagbearer in the 2016 election.

According to Oheneba E. Kwarteng who is a leader of NAFOP, the political clout and track record of Nana Akufo-Addo makes him the ideal person to lead the party again.

Following the dismissal of the landmark election petition by the Supreme Court recently, the debate about who should lead the NPP has become intense.

Nana Akufo-Addo who together with his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NPP Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, had filed the petition, said he is taking a break and would decide his political future later.

However, calls on the NPP stalwart who, many including international bodies, have hailed for the manner he conducted himself during the political stalemate, continue to grow.

Oheneba Kwarteng believes that the tortuous political journey that the NPP has embarked upon particularly since 2008 demands that the party continues to field a tried and tested leader for future elections.

‘We commend Nana Akufo-Addo highly for his commitment to peace even though we feel we were denied justice in court. He exhibited tendencies that no African politician would do.’

He said that Nana Akufo-Addo’s advice that Ghanaians should embark on a path that builds, rather than destroy was most refreshing and demonstrated the NPP’s commitment to national development.

He said that the NPP needed to remain focused and make feverish preparations towards 2016 saying, ‘We all know the NDC has been failing us and we have to continue to expose the deficiencies in their policies to the people.’

‘We believe strongly that the Nana/Bawumia ticket is still the most attractive. We should continue to strengthen this ticket for the NPP to reach higher heights.’
