NADMO begins investigations into Adjei Kojo ‘siege’

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is investigating the seizure of tents donated to displaced persons at Adjei Kojo, a suburb of Tema after a demolition exercise in the area.

Some unidentified men on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, besieged the makeshift camp and made away with some of the tents housing the about thousand residents, who have lost their properties due to the demolition exercise.

The Tema Development Corporation (TDC), which embarked on the demolishing exercise, has denied any involvement in the act.

But speaking to CitiNews, the Tema NADMO Metro Coordinator, Hajia Zeinab Abdulai expressed shock at the current development.

According to her, the police in the area gave the assurance to offer maximum protection hence could not fathom why the perpetrators were not apprehended.

The Tema NADMO Metro Coordinator noted that the residents in the area are just victims of circumstance therefore, it is within their purview to assist them.

“Our mandate is to protect lives and properties and that is exactly what we are doing. The people are just victims of circumstance”, she stressed.

Hajia Zeinab Abdulai further noted that NADMO has begun investigations into the issue to take appropriate action.
