MTN Heroes Of Change Season 2 Inspires Unsung Heroes


MTN Heroes of Change Season II, currently showing on a number of television stations, tells the inspiring and heart-warming stories of community members who devote time, energy and resources to making lives of others brighter and better.

The 13-week TV series has so far showcased the work of six of theten finalists for Heroes of ChangeSeason II. They include the stories of: Mr. Nayina Karim a Social Entrepreneur who established a rehabilitation center and school for malnourished children in Karaga community in the Northern region;YvonneBoaduaa from the Eastern region who runs a training and housing facility dedicated to giving physically challenged persons the skills needed to make a living; and Mrs Salome Francois who established the New Horizon School 40 years ago to support children with disabilities.

Another finalist is IsaacAdjaottor, a Community Health Worker from Ada Foah in the Greater Accra Region, who has distributed over 6,000 bed nets in his village and surrounding villages to help reduce malaria in the community. He also uses proceeds from the sale of farm produce from a farm he owns, called “Farm for School,” to pay the school fees of deprived children.

Other heroes are Madam Paulina Opei and Rev. Jehu Appiah. Madam Paulina Opei established the ”Save Our Lives” Orphanage to support orphans with formal education and provide them the opportunity to have brighter future. Rev Jehu Appiahalso set up a center in Apam in the Central region dedicated to caring for disabled children in the community.

Commenting on the programme, the Executive Director of MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor said, “The MTN Heroes of Change programme is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities to improve the lives of people.

“The Foundation is happy to showcase the work of these unsung heroes and recognize their contributions to society. We believe that through the support we give to them, they will be able to extend their projects to benefit more people.”

The MTN Heroes of Change is an initiative by which MTN Ghana Foundation seeks to identify and supportpeople who have made significant impact in their communities in the areas of Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. At the end of the TV series, an independent panel of judges will select three category winners and an ultimate 2015 MTN Hero of Change.

The ultimate winner will receive project support of GHC100, 000.00 while each of the category winners will receive Gh₵20,000.The other seven finalists will receive Gh₵5,000. The general public is encouraged to vote for their favorite heroes by texting their names to short code 1406 on all networks to determine the winners.

Heroes of Change airs on seven TV stations — on Saturdays at 6pm on UTV, TV3 and at 8pm on 4Syte TV and Ocean TV. It also airson Sundays at 6pm on Multi TV (Joy Prime), 7:30pm on Metro TV and at 8pm on Viasat 1.
