The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, with support from the Export Development Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF), has presented a brand new tractor with trailer, plough and harrow worth GH¢160,000 to pineapple and pawpaw farmers in his constituency to help in their farming activities.

The constituency, which is the hub of pineapple production for export in the country, has over 400 farmers engaged in large scale pineapple production.

Presenting the keys to the farmers at Fotobi in the constituency, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said the donation was to help boost the production of non-traditional export crops like pineapple and pawpaw in the constituency to earn more foreign exchange for the country.

He said since Nsawam/Adoagyiri is the hub of the production of non-traditional export crops, farmers there would need more assistance from the government.

“Roads in our constituency are very bad and the farmers find it difficult transporting their produce so we want the government to help re-shape our roads,” he appealed, adding that the farmers would have to be given grants in order to expand their farms and produce more.

He said he was doing everything possible to secure loans and grants for the farmers’ co-operatives in the area.

Dr. Baffour Osei, CEO of EDAIF, in a short speech after the presentation, commended Annoh-Dompreh for his concern for farmers in the constituency, adding that he (MP) took a bold step by approaching EDAIF to assist the farmers in the constituency.

“Your hard work as well as that of your MP to ensure high level production inspired and motivated EDAIF to support your activities.” the EDAIF CEO said.

He urged the farmers to properly maintain the tractor so that EDAIF would be motivated to give more support to them.

The chairman of the farmers’ co-operative at Fotobi, Kwame Oppong, thanked the MP and EDAIF for their support and promised that the tractor would be properly maintained to benefit more farmers in the constituency.
