Mason Gets 7yrs For Defiling Girl, 14

An Accra Circuit Court yesterday sentenced a young mason to seven years’ imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The convict Eric Quarshie defiled the victim in 2013 at Anyaa, a suburb of Accra, which resulted in a pregnancy.

Eric, who appeared before a court, presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

D/Insp. J. B. Asante told the court that in 2013, the victim, who was 12 years-old left her mother’s house due to a supposed punishment by her mother.

He said as a result the victim went to stay with her uncle one Kofi.

He said while the girl was returning from one of her errands she met Eric who proposed love to her.

D/Insp. Asante stated that the victim accepted the proposal and went to live with Eric, adding that the convict impregnated the victim and negotiated with her parents to take care of the victim but failed to do.

The police officer said on October 30, 2015 the victim reported Eric to the police, adding that it came to light during investigation that the convict had defiled the victim.

D/Insp. Asante stated that Eric, in his caution statement, admitted the offence, insisting that the victim told him that she was 16 years old.
