Man Assaults Sister For Mourning Nephew

A health worker with the Ahmadiyya Hospital in Daboase in the Wassa East District of the Western Region has done what could best be described as unthinkable after severely beating his sister for mourning a dead nephew.

According to the health worker, popularly known as Joe, he did not understand why the sister decided to mourn the death of their nephew, who he described as recalcitrant.

Joe is currently at large whilst the victim, who sustained life threatening injuries, is currently on admission at the female surgical ward of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital with stitches all over her face.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that a formal complaint was yet to be lodged with the police.

Speaking in an interview, one Abena who claimed to be the daughter of the victim, gave the name of her mother as Naomi Hayford.

She indicated that her mother had been in charge of the upkeep of the nephew, whose name was given only as Derrick, 19, who is now deceased.

According to Abena, last Sunday morning   Derrick went out for a health walk but after a long wait he did not return. His lifeless body was later retrieved at a beach.

Upon hearing the news of the drowned nephew, the victim started wailing but the brother tried restraining her with the reason that the deceased was stubborn so if he was dead so be it.

But the sister did not budge and kept on mourning. This reportedly infuriated the brother who then broke a table belonging to victim and used a piece of it to assault the unsuspecting victim when she was lying in bed.

As a result, the victim sustained bruises all over her face. She was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi by some neighbours after the brother, Joe, had bolted.

The body of the drowned nephew has also been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital morgue for autopsy.
