Legon Night Market Receives Facelift

Legon “Night Market” receives face lift.
Work is in progress to reconstruct the Night Market after a rainstorm wrecked it down some months ago.

The reconstruction follows a presentation of building materials by the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO to the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate PDMSD through the efforts of the Student Representative Council led by Mr. Joshua Kofi Mawuko Dogbey.

The SRC has in the meantime negotiated for the market women to be moved closer to the International Students Hostel ISH in order to continue serving the growing nutritional needs of the student body. “We do not want the market women to be away while reconstruction is on going so we requested that they be moved closer to ISH to serve students” Mr. Dogbey intimated.

Students were seen eating under makeshift shades provided by the market women. “Eating here is a bit uncomfortable because it is too open and everybody gets to see you eat” one of the patrons said. ” As you can see it is blazingly hot already. Eating here is not as convenient as the old place”, another asserted.

“We were called last night to come move our safes here because work has started on the old place”. “We are not told when work will be done. It is not so comfortable but we will manage it” Some market women lament.

The market women will continue to run shift until construction for the old lane for food vendors is complete. Sellers of groceries at the night market will take their turn when that of the food vendors is done.

It is not clear when construction will be completed.
