Kintampo disaster: Mahama visits victims; announces GHC100,000 support

President John Mahama is in Brong Ahafo regional town, Kintampo, visiting survivors of the fatal disaster last Wednesday in which 63 passengers perished.

The president who was accompanied by NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, donated assorted items to accident victims and other patients on admission at the hospital. The items included cartons of Milo and milk.

Government has also announced it is supporting the victims and survivors with GH₵100,000.

At least 23 passengers were reported injured and have been on an admission in various hospitals mainly at the Techiman Government hospital.

Others have been admitted at the Sunyani Government hospital and the Holy Family Hospital. Among the injured are six reported to be in critical condition. They have been brought to Accra for further treatment.

The president’s visit comes after a delegation led by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Opoku was sent from the Flagstaff house to have firsthand information about the disaster.

John Mahama arrived in an Airforce helicopter in Sunday afternoon to the teeming following of residents in the community.
