Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng speaks at Global Sickle Disease in Brazil

Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng was guest speaker on Wednesday at the ongoing 2nd Global Sickle Cell Disease congress underway in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

A hotline documentary Seth Kwame Boateng produced early this year titled “Pain from Cursed Cell” won him the invitation to speak at the congress.

In that documentary Seth looked at how sickle cell, which is a purely medical condition is rather seen as the work of witches in parts of the Upper East Region of Ghana.

Seth Kwame Boateng was the only journalist invited to take part in the plenary meeting attended by professors, medical experts and researchers.

Seth’s presentation left some of the participants crying after stark revelations about how the sickle cell disease is handled due to limited knowledge in the Upper East Region.

Some participants called on the United Nations to immediately take action to ensure people in rural parts of Ghana are well educated on the disease.
