Jomoro Assembly endorses President Nominee

Half-Assini (W/R), Dec. 22, GNA – The Jomoro District Assembly in the Western Region on Monday endorsed the President’s Nominee, Mr George William Somiah as the District Chief Executive (DCE).

Forty-seven out of the 48 Assembly Members present at a special Assembly meeting at Half Assini voted ‘Yes’ for Mr Somiah. There was one rejected ballot.

The election was supervised by the Deputy Western Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Gordon Tawiah Otoo and assisted by Jomoro Electoral officer, Mr Samuel Otoo and his officials.

The Minister, Mr Ekow Gyan, urged the house to confirm the nominee to facilitate the development of the district.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr Prince Charles Ndarko, on behalf of the Assembly promised to offer the new DCE the needed assistance to help develop the district.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Somiah expressed profound gratitude to the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him as DCE and gave the assurance that he would never abuse it.

He thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity given him to serve the country.

He called on the Assembly members and stakeholders to cooperate with him to create jobs through the Public Private Partnership to cushion the local economy.

Mr Somiah is currently the District Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division of Ministry of Education. He holds a BSC Honours in Agriculture and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast.
