Jake broke his promise to me – Fred Oware

First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Fred Oware has described as “unfortunate” Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey’s claim of betrayal of trust after he declared his intention to contest the chairmanship position of the party.

According to Mr. Oware, he decided to vie for the position after the National Chairman [Jake] publicly said he would not seek re-election.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey on a current affairs programme on TV3 over the weekend, expressed shock at Mr. Oware’s decision to join the chairmanship race.

Jake maintained that Fred Oware as his deputy and someone he confided in about his political future has stabbed him in the back by his decision to contest the chairmanship slot.

But speaking on Asempa FM’S Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Fred Oware said the party Chairman is being very unfair to him.

“Jake broke his promise to me. He told me and some party executives after our Steering Committee meeting that he will not contest. So I can’t be a traitor” he stated.

Mr. Oware said he cannot be blamed for Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey’s indecisiveness because he felt in his [Jake] absence, his deputy should take charge.

“I bring to NPP a pair of safe, matured and experienced hands that everyone can trust. I am open and shall give access and hearing to the grassroots but would continue to be firm in the interest of the party” he added.

The aspiring National Chairman said Obetsebi-Lamptey is “forever my boss and I don’t have anything against him”.

Fred Oware said he is in the race due to the NPP’s agenda to win general elections and bring real development to Ghanaians.

Apart from the incumbent chairman, Fred Oware, faces stiff opposition from business mogul Paul Afoko and two time failed aspiring chairman, Stephen Ntim.
