IYC Ghana Donates To Correctional Home

The International Youth Council-Ghana, has donated stationery items to The Boys and Girls Correctional Home in Accra as part of scheduled activities to climax the end of the year.

The Correctional and Remand Home caters for juveniles who have found themselves at the wrong side of the law. Abused, and abandoned children also form part of their core units. The institution, according to sources is given an annual subvention of GHC 300 for both official and domestic duties, which is woefully inadequate.

As a result, the institution is unable to fully undertake its basic responsibility. They, however depend on benevolent corporate and Non-Governmental Organisations such as IYC- Ghana for assistance.

As part of its prime objectives, the International Youth Council- Ghana aims at eradicating child-illiteracy in Ghana in the shortest possible time. Plans have already been drawn to donate teaching and learning materials and also undertake projects to help promote the literary rate of the country.

Leader of the IYC- Ghana delegation to the home Miss Adiata Millah admonished the children to study hard and keep up with good friends.

Miss Millah also encouraged other well meaning organisations to join forces with IYC- Ghana to help eradicate child-illiteracy. She called for an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to aid government provide education for Ghanaian children.

The donation worth over one thousand Ghana Cedis were received by the caretaker Mr Chris Komla who, express his gratitude to the IYC Team. He promised to ensure that the children make maximum use of the books given them.

The donation was done with support from EPP books services.
