It was almost impossible to get Parliament’s new furniture locally – Minority Leader

Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has mounted a robust defence of the decision to refurbish the main chamber of the House of Parliament with colourful set of furniture from China.

He said, it was almost impossible to get a local furniture supplier to supply the quality of furniture befitting of the House within the time that MPs expected the House to be refurnished.

The Minority Leader was answering questions on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show as to why the House has been furnished with Chinese made furniture when president John Mahama has been waging a vigorous campaign to promote Made in Ghana Products.

Host of the Morning Show, Kojo Yankson pointed out to Mr. Kyei-Menah-Bonsu that the decision to procure the furniture from China flies in the face of the president’s campaign.

But the Suame Member of Parliament insisted there was good reason for the decision.

More soon.
