I’m not an illiterate; I’m highly educated – Chairman Wontumi tells critics

Aspiring Ashanti regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has rebuffed claims that he is uneducated.

According to him, he is highly educated and can express himself very well in the English language.

Chairman Wontumi, who was speaking on an Accra based radio station; Oman FM Monday, said he is a former student of Prempeh College; completed in 1996 and continued to a security school in London.

Many in the party are skeptical about Antwi Boasiako’s ability to stir affairs in the NPP due to what they claim is his limited level of education.

The critics, many of whom are supporters of his opponents, believe the NPP would be shooting itself in the foot if Wontumi becomes Chairman.

But in the riposte, Antwi Boasiako, the leading contender in the race said he is not perturbed by what he described as a deliberate ploy to distract his campaign.

He could not fathom why people want him to speak impeccable English in an Akan dominated area to prove he is literate.

Chairman Wontumi said no serious politician ready to serve his people will speak in a language the people do not understand therefore the ‘book long’ people in the NPP must come again.

He said what should be of concern to NPP members especailly those vying for various positions is how the party would strategize to recapture power from the “incompetent” Mahama-led administration.

Antwi Boasiako vowed to work assiduously if elected as Chairman to ensure NPP wins the Asawase, Ahafo Ano North, New Edubiase and Drobonso parliamentary seats of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.
