THE MUNICIPAL Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman, Ibrahim Baidoo, has stressed that he would not spare any indisciplined persons and law-breakers who build at unauthorized areas in the municipality, saying he would demolish all such structures.

According to the MCE, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) is highly determined to protect all the remaining parcels of land belonging to the assembly and therefore he would not hesitate to flatten any structure found to have been erected illegally.

He further warned that any buildings the assembly finds situated on waterways will not be spared in his resolve to ensure discipline in Ashaiman.

Ibrahim Baidoo gave the warning during the induction of members of seven Zonal Councils into the assembly.

It may be recalled that the assembly has already threatened to demolish over 200 buildings said to be sitting on waterways and on the assembly’s land which has raised much tension in the area.

Some houses which are to be affected are located at the Middle East, Adjei-Kojo Junction, Irrigation Development Authority (IDA) area, Afariwa lorry park, Ashaiman Irrigation Dam, among other places.

But the MCE explained that several buildings are fast springing up on lands at the IDA where vital installations for farming have been sited.

According to him, “such disorderliness and disregard for building permits are what the incoming zonal councils would have to assist the assembly to clamp down on.”

He also charged the unit committee members to assist the assembly by educating the people for them to understand their rights and responsibilities.

“Unit Committee members must let their people understand the need for them to keep their communities clean, pay taxes, stay away from state properties and maintain state properties,” he urged.

The MCE also entreated the members to identify other sources of revenue generation.

Mr Baidoo warned that the assembly would continuously fight against blatant disregard for laws by recalcitrant residents, and challenged all the Zonal Council members to up their games to assist in the tasks the assembly intends to undertake.
