I Am Bent On Providing Water To My Constituents — Hannah Bissiw


The Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region Dr. Hannah Bissiw announced she has made frantic effort to provide potable water to all inhabitants in her constituency.

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture says she has started with the provision of sixty one (61) bore holes which are operational in various communities, adding that she had acquired some eight (8) new ones which had been handed over to the District chief Executive of the area for fair distribution.

Hon. Hannah Bissiw believes that this step would help prevent the spread of water borne diseases and solve the perennial water crises faced by her people. That “the area has been battling with diseases like typhoid and bilharzia as a result of drinking unclean water…I will do all I can to provide every community with some bore holes to supply them with clean and safe water”, she emphasized.

She stated that providing water for all in the constituency forms part of her key development priorities because the only sources of water for the people over the years have been streams and rivers which contain worms and other disease-causing organisms.

The Deputy Minister stressed the need for people who have not received their share of her bore holes provision agenda to observe good hygienic practices such boiling water from streams and rivers before drinking, to alleviate their chances being infected with water borne diseases, as she gathers more momentum to spread quality water across the constituency.

She advised that people should not use water they would not drink for any other domestic activities such as cooking, washing of utensils and bathing since there is the tendency of aiding the microorganisms into the body through these activities.

The legislature revealed that aside the provision of water facilities, she had embarked on several major developmental projects that have brought relief in various forms to the people.

Chronicling some of the projects which she could mention off-head, Dr. Hannah Bissiw listed the provision of classroom blocks, renovation of existing classroom blocks which were in bad conditions, building of chip compounds, expansion of facilities at a clinic at Derma.

She continued that the construction of a Two hundred and twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢220, 000.00) worth market at Techimantia was being started, adding that she has built an ultra modern slaughter house in the same community, distributed one thousand exercise books to students and pupils while some ten thousand are ready to be distributed soon.

The woman parliamentarian said, to empower the youth with self support skills, she had presented sewing machines and hair dressing equipment to two hundred young men and women, and have trained three hundred and twenty five women in soap making.

Hon Bissiw has charged her people to rally behind her to do more for their betterment.
